Every Indian student fantasises about studying abroad. Many Indian students cannot afford
the education and the only obstacle in their path is hefty tuition fees and travel
expenditures.
To bridge the gap between students and financial costs, the Ministry of HRD in 2016 made
modifications to the UGC programme to assist the aspiring students and help them fulfill
their dreams. The goal of this programme is to partner with reputed Foreign Educational
Institutes, study in these, and acquire formal education.
The programme opened the floodgates for many students. Many top-tier universities
partnered with foreign institutions and leveraged the opportunity to harmonise their
curriculum with prominent universities abroad.
Many students are aiming for a wide global experience but are unable to bear the fees
that cost them an arm and a leg. Joining a foreign collaborated institute is a win-win
situation. It allows you to stay in the home country while developing a global
perspective with foreign collaborations.
The UGC specifies that only preeminent institutes with a good ranking will be granted permission for foreign collaborations. The Education Ministry performs continuous checks and balances to ensure that only top-grade institutes join for collaboration to create a perfect integration of international educational curriculum for students. The guidelines further state that students who sign up for international collaboration programmes should be allowed to study abroad for at least one year for undergraduate degrees and one semester for postgraduate degrees so that they can benefit from the global exposure.
International Collaboration is key to view the world and experience different cultural and academic diversity.
Until recently, only the upper sections of the society were able to afford foreign
education. The middle class was left behind because of the steep prices. The government
recognised the importance of education in the development of the country. Bridging the
gap between the class divide, the government has opened doors for foreign investment in
Indian education.
A wide spectrum of opportunities opened for the lower and middle sections of the
society. Studying in a foreign-collaborated institute helps Indian students get global
education at half the price. Twinning programmes allow students to develop a global
personality. They get a fair chance to participate in student exchange programmes, get
acquainted with other cultures while still being home, and gain an enriching experience.
For domestic students, they get a chance to travel internationally with the exchange programmes. Secondly, it helps students with the skills to study, work, and travel in an international capacity.
